Doctors and scientists continue to collaborate from all over the world to identify additional forms of Monogenic Diabetes. Monogenic Diabetes symptoms mimic Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes symptoms and when a patient is properly diagnosed, often times the patient is able to transition off insulin shots or insulin pump therapy and take oral diabetes meds daily to successfully manage their diabetes. Life changing for not only the patient, but the whole family. Truly a miracle.
Below are links to Inspiring Stories that have inspired our family!

Persistency is key. If you or your loved one continually tests Negative for autoimmune antibodies and have a history of diabetes in successive generations in the family, it is worth investigating further. If your endocrinologist is not willing to investigate the situation further, reach out to a specialist for another opinion. It could be life changing. The University of Chicago Kovler Diabetes Center is a national leader in comprehensive diabetes care and research and is committed to finding new therapies for diabetes and identifying patients with Monogenic Diabetes across the country.
Another inspiring story in a different way...Diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes at age 19 in 1960...survived for almost two years without insulin before getting on shots for Type 1 in late 1961! Posted with permission from Jack Tierney, PhD Thank you, Jack, for sharing!
